Press Release

July 28, 2021

For Immediate Release

Many communities across Canada have been devastated by the recent chain of burning and vandalizing of some 50 churches which took place over the span of the past few short weeks across the country.

Not only did these attacks result in damage and destruction to ancient Catholic churches which were built some 100 and 200 years ago, but also churches that were built by more recently established immigrant communities. One blatant example is St. George’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Surrey, British Columbia, which was burnt to the ground on Monday July 19, 2021. Followers of the Coptic Orthodox church who emigrated to Canada from Egypt, in pursuit of the promise of equal rights, religious freedom, and the rule of law, were shocked to see their churches once again under attack.

While some politicians expressed solidarity with the affected communities, there are still some questions that remain unanswered and no perpetrators have thus far been identified.

Vandalizing and burning places of worship have no place in Canada and must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

Civic Revival calls upon the Trudeau government to publicly condemn such atrocities and to assume its responsibility of upholding the Charter Rights for all Canadians and of putting an end to such heinous attacks on churches. The Federal government must exercise the full extent of its power to bring the perpetrators to justice.

We also call upon all concerned Canadians to rise up and ask for accountability from their government and for upholding the rule of law. Please join us as we stand up together to make our voices heard:

It’s so sad that people who never took the time to study history for themselves are listening to wack propaganda and trying to destroy the very foundation of a civilization that took thousands of years to get here! I’m sorry I have to be the one to say this but this makes me so mad because the people burning these churches are often young people and anyone younger than 30 should have no right in deciding what our society should be like. That’s how the first democracy worked in Athens.

    Thank you for service,
    Megan S.

No breaking the law! Damaged to property and persons must be prosecuted! Stop all Government funding of lobby groups until our Indigenous Issues have been resolved. Use my tax dollars to fund Indigenous Issues first. Pamela Gordon

The bishops are happy-they’ve been tearing down historic(pre Vat2) churches the last 55+ years.
